Picture This Picture That #14: Daily Life in A New England Autumn
Sometimes when you live in a place all your life you don’t understand why it is that people come from all over the world just to see what has become invisible to you. Fall in New England is a musical beauty that changes from day to day. Peak color only lasts a short time, but if you are lucky and the weather is right on a still, fall day even the locals can get mesmerized.
A New England Autumn

The leaves are going now
in the autumn of the life;
a last song before sleep.
If you catch a moment
when the wind waits,
quiet your breaths
and hear colors sing.
View from a local causeway
Sometimes you can almost hear Bob Ross painting happy little trees.
Golds were common in our area this past fall of 2014
Gorgeous until you have to rake it.
Our house is surrounded by trees. Both beautiful and maddening if you don’t have a dozen children to rake it all.
Beautiful days for playing without a care.
Raking does have it’s high points when you are small.
Every kid should have a tire swing

I love New England. I lived in Connecticut in my early 20’s. I often think of returning. Thank you for reminding me of its beauty.

I bet! One of my best friends lives in New London. He said that last week he had snow drifts up to his windows.

Beautiful pics. Reminds me of Ontario, but it also reminds me of Nova Scotia, which is where my parents are from.

I think I would like to explore more of Cananda. So far we’ve only been as far as the fall or passing through on our way to Michigan. The falls in the winter though, is surprisingly beautiful.

Did you see when Nik Wallenda crossed Niagara Falls? I was sweating the whole time lol! I am soooo afraid of heights. And I would NEVER skydive.
Canada’s got some beautiful spots, that’s for sure 🙂

Love this! I was born and raised in Maine, but currently live in Indiana. The simple beauty of Maine in all seasons definitely gets forgotten when you are so used to it. Being away has made me appreciate it that much more 🙂

Lovely to see the leaves…. but just like snow, nicer to see from afar so I don’t have to deal with raking leaves or shoveling snow!

I told my husband that I want one of those lawn vacuums because the amount of leaves we have is staggering!

AMAZING!!! I do miss fall and the brilliant colors from back East. It was always my favorite time of year. I love the “glass” looking lakes when the leaves reflect off the still water.

I’m from the Boston area and so know there is nothing like fall in New England! I’ve lived in California for many years now though and really appreciate my visits back east a lot. Nice photos!

I’ve heard people here talk longingly about wanting to see New England when the trees turn. They don’t get the dramatic fall colors here. In fact, they don’t call it fall–they call it autumn.

I am to understand that it is often rainy and gray? Though I’ve seen some beautiful photos of the countryside — short summers I presume?

Rainy and gray a lot of the time, yes. And beautiful. I wouldn’t say the summers are short. They’re cooler–that’s the main difference. And the winters are milder, at least in Cornwall, where I live. Spring comes early, and even in the winter you find flowers growing outside, so you really feel like there’s hope.
