Letting Life Lead

Yeah Write #1: Moonshine240 Weekend Writing Showcase

Writer’s Dilemma

My writer stalks me
Buzzes in my ear
When I am busy
Sits upon my lap
When I eat dinner
Complains in the car
When I drive to work
Wakes me in the night
Interrupting dreams
Now I sit ready
Two hands poised to pen
Then fingers to keys
Like a needy cat
It sits on my hands

Love it! Such a creative expression of this feeling we all know. I especially like “complains in the car” and “like a needy cat.”

It was the buzzing in my ear that got me to do it again. It’s the only way to stop it from nagging. I agree with Jennifer, those were my favorite lines, too! Welcome to the moonshine!

Thanks! For a long while I got used to ignoring the buzzing and it got less intense. It’s been really strange (in a good way) having it back.

I love the feeling of inspiration buzzing in my ear. You do a great job getting across so many different images in such a short poem.

I laughed when I got to the cat sitting on your hands. This is all so true.

That last line struck me. For me, it’s the feeling I’ve had when I finally sit down to work and nothing comes, as if my hands are weighted down on the keys with no room to move and type. Le sigh. It happens to the best of us, right?

It is weird to think that my favorite authors must know that feeling, but they are only human.

Exactly. Buzzing and complaining in my ear, and then sitting on my hands. You’ve expressed it perfectly.

So eloquently put. The last line strikes a cord. I will have ideas coming in all day long and when I am ready they seem to have disappeared

I love how in each line the need to write takes a different animal form – it’s so sneaky! And omnipresent, and annoying, and frustrating. And EVENTUALLY rewarding. You really captivate it here.
