“Penny for them?” My husband inquired.

“When our kids ask me when I knew you were serious I’ll say, ‘When I signed for the ring.’ ”

“You signed for it!?”

“Mmmhmm … I put it in the mailbox so you could surprise me.”

“Shit.”

    I’ve ruined a surprise by shipping it home without thinking that the intended person would most likely be the one to receive it. That’s why everything is shipped to work now!
