What’s Up Doc #14: The Results Are In — Mindful Things — #NYCMidnight SSC Round 1 GR10

Mindful Things: NYCMidnightSSCLast night, I waited until 12:05 am for the contest announcements and then went to bed.    What was I doing?   I told myself to go to bed and to just stop.     I thought I had turned my Kindle off, but it was just sleeping.   Two minutes after I close my eyes I hear a “ting ting”.

I’ve got mail.

If I look at it and it’s disappointing news I will be up all night in despair.    If it is good news then I’ll be up all night in disbelief.  If I don’t look at it at all I’ll be up all night wondering which news it is.

Oh, fahrvergnügen!

I read through it, hands shaking.  The results aren’t directly stated in the email so I follow the link.  Then I scroll to find my round number.  I click and…

Here is a visual representation of my emotional state…

Wait.  Am I reading that right?

I made it to Round 2?

I MADE IT TO ROUND 2!

Is this really happening?   I wake up my husband who isn’t pleased with me to tell him the news.    Dude, I made it!   Look!
I …

Oh…

Oh my.    I made it to Round 2… That means…

I have to write another story for round 2.

This weekend.

Three days.   One thousand words.

I couldn’t have gotten this far without my beta readers (innatejames, The Write Melony, Donna Newshound to Novelist, and Christine Trudging Through Fog).  I cannot remember who else, but there were a few more.  They really made an okay story better with their eagle eyes.

I’m just sooooo excited for you! Happy to help all over again. Bad news, though… I’m pretty sure it’s 2000 words, and not 1000. >_>

I appreciate it! I am mentally hyperventilating. I’m not sure which one of those numbers is worse. LOL

Congratulations!! I was also in Heat 10, and while my story didn’t make the top five, it did receive an honorable mention. This was my first writing contest, and my first time sharing any writing beyond the four walls of my house. The honorable mention is more than I expected, and definitely more than enough to keep me writing. I’d love some feedback on my story from you and any of your eagle-eyed readers that might care to take a gander (wait, now I’m mixing my avian references).

This link is to a PDF of my story.

Again, congratulations on moving to round 2. I can wait to read your next story!

Congrats on your honorable mention. I only managed to read 1 story from heat 10. I didn’t see any more posted, I’m glad you shared yours. This was my first contest and story, too. The prompts almost made me cry. 😉
