Not again. I’m cursed. How am I running behind? Oh, yeah, get up an hour early, dress, groom, and wear my coffee. “You’re late again Ms. Lately,” they’ll jeer. I sprint. A boom rocks the block and my bus belches a blaze.

And thanks to phones it can be streamed live. “No really, my bus blew up. /I/ almost blew up. I think I’m taking the rest of the day off.”

I enjoyed the alliteration in the last line.

Me too. I wasn’t going to at first, but I changed a few words to “b” sounds to amuse myself. I think I spend twenty minutes trying to decide if I should go with “rocked the block” or “bounced the block” .

Thanks! I thought all the “b” sounds would sound like vibrating booms.

Fate steps in. I like how the bulk of this is the build…seemingly an ordinary day…makes the shock at the end that much more powerful.

It’s funny, I wrote the whole story, just so that I could use the title Ginny-Come-Lately. ;P She had to be chronically late of course, and her last name had to be unfortunate. LOL

Love that the story builds to that last line just brimming with bbbbs. 🙂 I was not expecting that ending. Hopefully they’ll take that as a legit excuse!

This reminds me; my mom was late to work once because a plane had to make an emergency landing on the interstate. When she finally got in, her boss was all, “Oh, you’re late? I suppose you’re going to give me some crazy excuse like a plane landed on the interstate?” My mom: “Well, actually…”
