Letting Life Lead
Happy Merry FestiHanuchristmakwanzyuleidays!
I dug back in my Wayback manchine and pulled out a mad craft from 2008. I still have the ornaments I kept and they look just as good. They did lose their distinctive smell a couple years ago, but they stayed scented for much longer than I ever anticipated.
What you need:
Really nice, fine glitter
glue or spray-on adhesive
some sort of spray sealer (optional but highly recommended)
ornament hooks, string, ribbon, mini bells, etc.
For every 3/4 cup of applesauce use 1 cup plus 2 tbsp of cinnamon. Mix together into a dough. Take care as cinnamon puff and make more of a mess than even powdered sugar! It might not seem like it is going to work and then the dough just happens. You can add more cinnamon if you think you need it, but give it time first.
Roll on parchment or wax paper. Cut into shapes. Cut and loop ornament hooks and press into dough or make a hole (keep toothpicks to prevent hole shrinking.) I prefer to use toothpicks or skewer a good hole. A small straw works too. Bake 200F for about 2 1/2 hours to dry them out or let them air dry for a few days (you may have to turn them to complete drying on the bottom).
Decorate as desired with glue and glitter, ribbons, bells, and string..
Tip: to have extra prevention from glitter from coming off spray outside with a sealer.
Tip: glitter glue is not concentrated enough for the dark cinnamon color and is not recommended.
Tip: Keep the tails long on the ornament hooks o they go through at least half of the item. It will hold better. If you have the space a two tail hook is stronger still.
