No such luck. But, hey look at me getting my Who’s On Fourth on at YeahWrite!
My 2015 resolution was to dust off a blog that I’ve had plans for since 2011, but just never seemed to have the time for. I’ve been a college instructor for twelve years and I love it; it is a path that chose me. With a husband, two children, two cats, and a house — energy is spread pretty thin. I woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and realized that the image of myself in the Matrix is not the person in the reflection. Is that a chin hair!? I haven’t written that novel I’ve been wanting to write since I was ten, but that seems like a daunting task. I’m working on it!
I wasn’t sure of this blog’s direction when I started, but I decided then I starting writing once again the path would reveal itself. I started with writing Amazon product reviews (take a look and if you find the review helpful you can like it) which I found I really enjoyed writing (something I could actually get done in the few minutes before a small person needed me to do something like blow their nose or break up another fight) before I revived this blog.
I then decided to try a number of things: a diary of my mad crafts and projects over the years, my adventures in being an inconsistent cook, domestic whines, some tutorials, accounts of my parenting journey of five years so far, and other random musings. I dabbled in some videos, but being an Introvert I am not quite as motivated for that, but I haven’t taken it off the table.
My first passion is fiction writing. Through this blog, I found that part of me that used to never be without pen and a notebook to scribble in wherever I went. I thought I lost her forever.
I started writing and let it happen. I don’t worry about blogging rules or single focus. I am quite tired of so many rules. My birthday reminds me that life is passing me by, and I just want to do…something! Well, something that doesn’t involve base jumping or white water rafting — I’ll just write about that, thanks.
So what’s in store for 44? Well, I am going to self-publish a short story collection. I won’t know unless I try right?

The summer holidays from school seemed endless, didn’t they … and there always seemed to be lots of sunshine in those days, or maybe there was rain – just that it didn’t bother us when we were young.:D

The couch 25K program? Is that the one where you have to carry the couch 25 kilometers? Great way to lose weight, but it’d leave a big gap in the living room

Typically me, it took me some time to get past the picture of the chocolate cake and start reading. Rules? Blogging has rules?! Oh dear, I hate those. I just decided one day I want to start a blog. I fumbled through the very user friendly process and did just what needed to be done so I could start writing. (Still have no clue about widgets) Now I hear of etiquette and rules and I can only hope nobody at the blogging police is watching. I am 44 this year and like you, I wish I was physically still a kid (mentally it has been sorted) Do what you love and do it the way you please. I like your posts and it makes me feel at home – it feels familiar. So, you go on ahead and live it!

It was a very delicious cake. I can do all tech stuff okay and sort out widgets over time, but I just have a problem trying to promote myself. You know? But I guess since I turned forty I am getting too tired to talk myself out of things. Hah! I am glad you like your posts. With my oldest blog it sometimes felt like I was just talking out into a vast space where it was heard only by space fleas! Maybe it’s true that when you reach a certain age it’s like a second childhood where you stop giving a fluke about arbitrary rules.

I am the same. I can market anybody else but myself, so one day I sat and had a conversation with myself and we concluded it is because I do not fear failure but the prospect of possible success terrifies me. I am not a huge fan of change, you see, and that is something that is inevitable when success comes around. But that’s just my own madness and right now I don’t even feel like working on that 🙂

Yes, success can be terrifying. I am a creature of habit myself. We moved to a new house a year and a half ago and I still don’t feel settled.

Don’t blame you. Studies have shown that next to divorce, moving house is the second most stressful event that can happen in an average person’s lifetime. Luckily we are not average so we can move it up to number one on the list

“image of myself in the Matrix is not the person in the reflection. Is that a chin hair!?” I’m sorry to say it is …chin hair, which is better than upper lip hair or thinnning head hair. We have so many hormonally charged hair issues to deal with as our children age. Seeing chin hair on my 14 year old for example, sigh. Life can never be boring enough if you ask me. 🙂 You didn’t but “hi” anyway.

Best of luck on the writing! I took a “sabbatical” last year to make headway on a novel I’d been writing for a couple of years. Wrote two novels, and decided not to go back. Still working on publishing!

That’s fantastic! I’ve been poking around writer’s blogs and it is beginning to sound like publishing is quite an involved process! I think I’d be happy at this point finishing something and making enough money to pay a few bills! As dispassionate as that sounds!

The reviews were nice because it was no pressure and every like boosted my confidence. Who sees your reviews is hit or miss, but it was about getting started with writing for an audience.

I started reading this and kept thinking, how much it sounds like me… I will have the same numbers on my cake this year, a bit earlier than you, and I wanted to start a blog for many years until I finally did a couple of weeks ago. I turn 42 this year as well. I anticipate that all the answers to all the questions I have about everything will suddenly be presented to me sometime in late April, and I will then become some sort of all-knowing powerful thing.
If that doesn’t happen, I will just continue to be perpetually disappointed about almost everything.

Hahaha! My husband turned 42 in January and he’s not yet manifested the all knowing power or answers. We decided not to have his brain analyzed surgically. They do say, though, that adults go through “brain developmental spurts” similar to that of children creating new awareness. So maybe that’s it 🙂

Sounds like we’re on a similar pathway of just doing it anyway and seeing what evolves. I’ve been wanting to write for years but my corporate writing through work had stifled any creativity. Lovely intro!!! It is so true that so often we do have dreams about something and then end up pushing them away for later… Until we find out, that “later” is now and happening!!! And too many years have gone by… Well done that you’re dusting off this blog and doing what you love, just trying out a few things. Why does it take people so long to stop playing by the rules? So liberating when you finally cotton on to it, but by then, you regret not having done it sooner.

I think it has to do with brain wiring. Some people are born with it, the rest of us have to get old and have a malfunction that activates it. LOL
