Me Time
2/28/2015
“Waydup Momma, Waydup!”
A little voice whispers
If I don’t move an inch
Pretend to sleep unaware
The nose pressed to my face
A finger in my nose
Might go away, I think
“Ah oping you eyes, Mom”
A snoring noise might fool
the pillow may save me
Another body stirs
“I’m hungry Mom. Momma. MOM!”
Two rally against one
No, the day is too young!
A little me times two
“Can I have an orange?”
“Can’t. You ate the last one,”
I fed them yesterday.
Always with the feeding
“Appo?” The little one pleas.
“Go get a banana,”
The bed empties at once
A knee in my back, Oof!
A a foot kicks my calf, Ow!
An argument; a yell
The cat purrs I am doomed
Drowned noise with a pillow
Dream threads have gone away
My time is shared and split
Not a moment alone
The bed sinks; giggles fly
“Here Momma one for you,”
“Ah nana for du mom!”
I eat under pillow
I grunt and smile inside
Surrounded by me time
writing, traveling, and tap dancing around town.
Leave your fear of the dark at the door, suspend your disbelief and come on in...
