Whatcha doin’?
Yes, I did!
I have a Sci-Fi short story with an actual conclusion to go along with the beginning and middle. It might even have an interesting plot!
And I want you to read it.
I feel sick. Breathe. Yes, I really want you to read it.
Oh…and…could you all help me get 1000 e-mail subscribers by Christmas, because it’s what I am going to ask Santa for?
I always think what I write will be snubbed by the lowest Dung Beetle. However, for my birthday, I promised myself I would jump in with feet first. I promised to invest in myself even if the very idea of sending out my story “out there” made me want to vomit.
I have to make a few minor edits to try and to fix any glaring errors (I am a notorious comma splicer) before I put in a final digital format today. I first thought to make it Kindle worthy with Scrivener, but I may just stick to an old fashioned PDF to start so I don’t get bogged into the details with an e-book format for now. It has already taken me two days to set up a real e-mailing list; I haven’t had one of those since the days of the Personal Webpage Guest Book and Excel.
I decided to go with Mail Chimp. Did you you that you need a PO Box for these things (unless you want to use your personal home address)? I invested $18 dollars in myself to have a PO Box for three months. I tried to talk myself out of it, but I wouldn’t let me do it.
Last, I decided to open a Patreon account. In case you think my writing is worthy, you can’t put a buck or two in my virtual tip jar. It would be amazing to raise some of the cost of hiring an editor for the novella I am working on. At first I was against such an idea, but then I read something on one of my writer Twitter feeds about not undervaluing what you do. If you write it, and they read it, and they value it, let them support you in it.
I thank all of you who read my blog rambles. Please subscribe to my new email list so I can send you the PDF file. Then, forward this blog post to your friends so they can subscribe and get one! Torture a relative who hates Science Fiction. Share it, Tweet it, +1 It, Facebook it.
Please, do send me feedback and your impressions. The file will automatically be sent to your inbox once you opt-in.
