Letting Life Lead

Poems Not Prose #4: Heartsong (A Ghazal)

Yeahwrite.me had a prompt about writing a ghazal.
I’ve never done one before, so I thought I would try my hand at it.

angel-heart-hand

What does it feel like to hear a love’s heart song.
Doki-doki like the cooing dove’s heart song?

To capture the tune and cradle it dearest
must make it tremble-rise an octave’s heart song.

How easy once in hand to crush and mangle;
to squeeze, to ruin the da-dum of heart song.

Such thrill in tempting misfortune with soul bared
to the sharp quills in a shrapnel-gloved heart song.

Oh, for the longing of moments to caress
under the poison bells of a foxglove’s heart song!

Turn to me I plead.  Hereinabove, I beg.
Hear the flutter of your ladylove’s heart song.

      Funny, but I actually find it a bit creepy. Lol

        I guess I can see that, too. Did you mean it to be creepy? I understood it to show the heart as being vulnerable.

        I didn’t mean to be creepy exactly, but on a reading its sounded a little demented to me. Lol. I guess it depends on how you take the imagery which really is a happy accident.
