Yeah Write #25: Unmatched (#flashfiction)

fogsockedin
On the left foot, a tall nylon sock styled as a buskinCould you make a windsock out of socks?  The right: a knee-high, rainbow-striped toe sock.   Why let meaningless habits sock you into a fog?

“Sock it to me.” She laughs.

What a clever take: noun, verb exchanges, my favorite: “Why let meaningless habits sock you into a fog?” Love this!

Thanks! I know it’s kind of an odd story, but I thought the word play was fun. That line drove me nuts. It’s till not exactly the…flow…I had in mind even after rewriting it and rearranging the order of the other sentences about half a dozen times.

I like it the way it is! Sometimes you have to leave the writing alone and let it settle in a shape of its own 🙂

Oh! Haha. It’s funny. I knew what I wanted the sock to be, I’ve seen them before, but it would have taken too many words to describe. I wondered if I could call it something and Dr. Google didn’t disappoint. 🙂

hahah I actually clicked on every link you posted, and then I looked up windsocks out of socks. The results were… stupefying. Like Google really didn’t understand my question. Poor Google.

LOL. I know. I looked at three different search engines. No sock windsocks, though there are windsock socks.

I’m glad it came across to you that way. I agonized over it, because it’s just plain weird.

Fun wordplay, and I love the idea of throwing convention to the wind. Why limit oneself to matched pairs, right?
